Eskilstunakistornas bruk och återbruk : Tidigkristna gravmonument i Östergötland under medeltiden

This paper studies the fragmentation and reuse of early christian monuments ("eskilstunakistor") in churches in Östergötland during the medieval period. This is found to have been done in two stages. The first stage shows a collectivization of society. Within religion the change from ancestoral cult towards the saints' cult is important as the fragments are reused like relics. During the second stage the collectivization has been fulfilled, and the reuse is instead part of the christian churches' strategy for incorporating old powerful symbols from the landscape into their own church building..

MUSIK TILL GUDS ÄRA - SYNDIGT ELLER GOTT? : En studie av kvinnors musicerande i den tidigkristna kyrkan

This thesis aims to investigate and discuss the possibility for women in the early Christian church to make music, which in the ancient Roman society was something complicated. Afemale musician was looked upon as decadent and dissolute. This idea, in combination with the music ideals of the church influenced by the Neoplatonic movement, and the Pauline statement (1 Cor. 14:34-36), cast women to be completely prohibited in participating even in the psalmody during the service. My purpose is to discuss how this was looked upon in different Christian regions, using the church fathers as the main material source, since this has not previously been well documented or studied..

Under hela människans civiliserade historia har det alltid funnits utvecklade och avancerade metoder att begrava de döda. Dessa metoder har varierat mellan kulturer, men har alltid speglat samhället i stort och vår syn på naturen och landskapet kring oss. Under förkristen tid var kremeringen med så kallade brandgravar det helt dominerande gravskicket. I och med kristendomens intåg i Sverige kom ett strikt förbud mot all kremering och ett krav på att alla gravsättningar skulle ske i vigd jord på kyrkogårdarna. Kyrkogården fungerade endast som en plats att förvara de döda och någon medveten trädplantering eller annan utformning fanns ej.
